Most secretive nation

North Korea is defiantly a mystery country where only 4% of its population can access the internet and every websites are under the control of the government. So why be so excluded from the world?

I don’t think people in North Korea will be checking their Facebook or Instagram every day. Everyone loves the internet but people in North Korea hardly use the internet. It’s called “intranet” there.  North Korea use the censorship, to protect there nation from other countries, they think its keeping their country safe. Is there anything good about this?

The advantages of having censorship on the internet are that the public is protected from any over exaggerated rumours and stops the nation to be feared. As kids are to be curious most of the time the internet is where to go, so having websites blocked can prevent kids from being exposed to inappropriate things or anything else involving the internet.

Of course there is another side of censorship and the biggest thing is that people in North Korea are mostly control of what their nation’s thoughts about the government. People don’t have their own self-expression and having the censorship stops people from being exposed to other counties beliefs, so they don’t develop their own opinion. Everyone around the world wants to be linked in some way and the internet is a way. Having websites blocked, websites including social media separates the country from all the others. Is that what North Korea’s intensions are? to be a part from the world?

Censorship is defiantly a way to keep country’s nation safe from the outrageous things on the internet but I think everyone should be able to decide their decision whether or not they allow internet for their family to use. Everyone has the right to choose what they want and shouldn’t be forced. Then on the other hand, it’s also depends on each government and their decisions. what would you chane of you where prime minster?

Restricting the use of smartphones

As students are using smartphone more and more often these days, people are trying to think of an idea to control students from using their smartphones. Schools in South Korea are starting to use an application called iSmartKeeper to be in controlled with their student’s smartphones. Each student has to download the app and teachers can adjust what they decide to do from their computers. The teacher can control weather the smartphone should be turned on or off and when it’s turned off, only emergency calls are allowed.

The school’s intention of having this application is to stop students being distracted during class by technology. It blocks social media sites and messaging and it only allows certain apps to be downloaded on the device.  Though the application only works on school grounds but it is optional for parents to use this app at home to restrict their child's smartphone use. How would you feel about that?

Over 600 schools are using this application and the Education officials want to expand the program to more schools soon. As they think it’s an affect way to keep students focused in class and not to update their Facebook status all the time.

This application wouldn’t be liked by many students all around the world as social media seem so important. It’s crazy how much we use smartphone these days and maybe this application will spread all around the world, even to your school.

Are the Simpsons predicting our future of technology?

We all know and love the Simpsons family and we often laugh at the silly things that they come up with. The Simpsons are actually predicting our future of technology with the crazy things in each episode. So what have they thought of that we use now in everyday life?

With technology becoming more advance these days, phones and computers are developing to things that they weren’t 30 years ago, now even watches. In the 1995 episode of "Lisa's wedding", her fiancĂ© makes a phone call using his watch. Now in 2014 we recently launched smartwatches, which is basically a phone and watch combined. Did Samsung and Apple get their inspiration from the Simpsons?

Yet another prediction from the episode of “Lisa’s Wedding” was video chatting. Lisa enters a regular phone number and Marge then pops up on the screen of the phone. How crazy is that? The Simpsons already knew we would video chat with people. Skype and Face time is what we use to video chat and it’s such a great way to communicate with people from overseas or even if they’re just in the next room.

Don’t everyone hate auto-correct sometimes? You are trying to message someone but auto-correct decides to change to a word that is totally different to what you typed. Well that’s what school bully Dolph felt in episode "Lisa on Ice", in 1994. He tried to take a memo on his Apple device “Beat up, Martin” but of course it auto-corrected to “Eat up, Martin”, typical devices.

I guess the Simpsons have predicted our future of technology in some ways. Maybe our companies should get their inspiration from watching Simpson episodes; I know that would be interesting.

Apple over PC

Apple and PC are different in their own ways, but it isn’t a secret that there is rivalry between them. As more school are getting technology involve with each student’s learning, schools are finding it difficult to know with will benefit their students and which device doesn’t. More schools are considering moving to an Apple environment over the current PC environment. So what are the Pros and Cons of Apple and PC? Let’s find out.

Having PCs means having more availability to more software application for each student to access. No matter what the assignment is, there is always an application that PCs can install. PC has more of a broader selection of manufacturers like Dell or HP and has a greater extent of components to upgrade. PCs are more flexible, you are able to customize the computer to the schools liking and also with old PCs it is compatible to Windows 7, so there is no need to purchase more computers. How good does PC sound? But there is always a bad side.

PC has more virus threats, students going on site and downloading things that they shouldn’t be and as result their computer has a virus and their only excuse is “yolo”. PC tends to be large and heavy, so it’s defiantly difficult for students to carry them to, during and after school. They take up a huge amount of space in their bags and lockers, leaving less space for text books and work books. So can Apple be any better?

Beside Apple devices being visually appealing and has a grate design, Apple also has their own applications like iBook to download text books or just reading books. Other application including iMovie for media student and igarage for students involve in music. With the Bootcamp software, the school can decide to download Windows or Linux, depending on the schools liking. Apple can get virus but there isn’t many virus compared to PC.

So the Cons of Apple is that it cost too much for what you get. There is generally a limit of thing that can be upgraded and Apple doesn’t have much customization, so that the computers can suit the intentions of the use of computers in class. There isn’t a wide range of software to be installed for students to work and even though it’s less maintenance, Apple doesn’t have the antivirus software that exists on PCs, which means there is a higher risk of each computer containing a virus.

Although Apple and PC are different, they both will help students with learning and researching for any purposes. It all depends on the school liking. So what would you chose?
